The 6 Eating Habits You Should Follow While Wearing Invisalign

Arguably, one of the biggest advantages of wearing Invisalign is that you can straighten your teeth without placing any limitations on your diet. Unlike traditional braces or other forms of braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed. Having Invisalign means that you can continue to eat all your favourite foods without having to fear that one of your brackets will pop off. With that said, there are certain eating habits you will want to stay away from while wearing Invisalign. We want your treatment to be as smooth as possible without unnecessary problems like discoloured aligners or other setbacks. However, for some patients, these vices can be challenging to break. With that said, the benefits of Invisalign in La Crête are certainly well worth the effort. The end result will be a stunning set of aligned teeth. Continue reading!

1. Cut down on morning coffee

Listen, we are not going to be surprised if you tell us that your morning cup of coffee is the best part of your morning. But we want you to know, when you wear Invisalign you will no longer get to sip on your favourite blend all morning. If you do not remove your aligners before sipping, they will become stained quickly. As a rule of thumb, remember that any food or drink that stains your teeth will also stain your aligners. If drinking more water has been on your mind, now is an even better time to start.

2. Avoid snacking

When you wear Invisalign in La Crête, you will always feel it, even though others may not see it. You will have to be more mindful of everything you consume and this includes snacks. You may be used to reaching for a chocolate bar or some salty peanuts during the day, but when you wear Invisalign you may reconsider. You will likely find yourself asking, “Is this snack worth it?” or “Do I really want to brush again?”. Practicing mindfulness will not only help with your treatment progress, but it can certainly save you from unnecessary calories.

3. Strategically schedule snacks and drinks into your day

Invisalign in La Crête must be worn for 20 to 22 hour per day for your treatment to be effective. This means when it comes to snacking you will have to do a little planning. Just ensure that the amount of times you pop off your Invisalign does not interfere with the 20-hour mark.

4. Avoid chewing gum

If someone asks you for some gum, your automatic response may be “Yes” but we want you to say “No”. We know, this may not always be the response you want, but when you are wearing Invisalign, chewing on gum is a major no. Why? The stickiness of gum will impair the orthodontic treatment, plus it will adhere to your aligners and cause damage.

5. Never eat with your aligners

If you are wearing your aligners, never eat something while they are in your mouth. It may be tempting to pop something tasty in your mouth or have a quick sip of a refreshing drink but think again. Your aligners are not equipped to handle the strong chewing forces that your teeth are trained to handle. Not only that, eating with Invisalign in your mouth is a complete mess. Plus, you will have to end up cleaning your aligners later, so what is the point?

6. Make your toothbrush your best friend

When you have Invisalign, you will want to keep your toothbrush with you at all times. You can find travel size toothbrushes at most drugstores for a more convenient alternative to your normal toothbrush. Your aligners spend a lot of time being pressed up against your teeth, so you will want to create a clean surface for them. Your aligners should also be kept as clean as possible for a cavity-free treatment.

If you are interested in Invisalign, schedule an appointment with your dentist in La Crête. A consultation appointment can determine if you are eligible for Invisalign, or if you would benefit from other orthodontic treatments. Take the steps towards a more aesthetically pleasing and healthy smile, and consult with your dental clinic today.
